Deric Cahill Brings the Laughs to Helium While Cozy Comedy Keeps It Cheap in Queen Village
Philadelphia comedy fans face a happy choice this weekend. Boston-born stand-up Deric Cahill headlines Helium Comedy Club with five shows Thursday through Saturday, while Cozy Comedy offers a pay-what-you-want alternative at Rally Coffee in Queen Village on Friday night.
Cahill matters because he represents the new path to comedy stardom. Known online as Boldfam, he jumped from corporate sales to national stages on the strength of sharp, unfiltered bits about parenting and family chaos, building an audience of more than a million followers across platforms, according to Vivid Seats. His debut special, Toxic Papa, introduced his voice, and his 2026 Unfortunate Son tour digs into his past to explain his present.
His Helium run includes a 7:30 p.m. show Thursday Oct. 15, two Friday shows at 7:00 and 9:15 p.m., and two Saturday shows at 6:00 and 8:30 p.m., according to ticketing listings. Several seatings are nearly sold out, so booking ahead is wise.
For comedy lovers watching their wallets, Cozy Comedy at Rally Coffee offers the opposite end of the spectrum. The Friday show runs 6 to 8 p.m. at the cafe at 701 S. 7th Street, with pay-what-you-want tickets, seasonal drinks like a corn miso latte, and a BYOB option, according to the event listing hosted by Leah Renee Comedian.
The contrast between the two shows captures Philadelphia’s comedy scene at its healthiest. A nationally touring headliner fills the premier club room downtown while a neighborhood show offers emerging comics and an early-evening, low-pressure hang in the same weekend.
Cozy Comedy describes itself as a quieter, kinder room, and its 6 p.m. start makes it one of the few comedy options for an early night out before the late club shows begin.
Both rooms welcome the weekend crowd, and both serve the same purpose. In a city with world-class free and cheap comedy nearly every night, October still finds a way to make the weekend feel like an event.
