Free STEM Conference for Girls Returns to Oaks for 26th Year
OAKS, Pa. — A free conference connecting girls with hands-on STEM experiences returns to Montgomery County this month for its 26th year.
Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology, known as GETT, invites girls in grades 4 through 10 to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s expo will feature more than 100 hands-on activities across computer science, engineering, coding, robotics, health care, environmental science, culinary arts, broadcasting and architectural design.
The event is hosted by the Innovative Technology Action Group, an initiative of the Chester County Economic Development Council. It began in 2001 as a Chester County program focused on computers and IT, and has since grown to draw students from across the region.
Last year’s event attracted more than 1,000 girls, parents and educators, according to organizers.
“We have seen this one-day experience become so popular over the years, giving girls an opportunity to have fun while learning about future careers they may not have envisioned on their own,” said Daisy Adams, the GETT chairwoman and senior director of digital operations and NOC at Bentley Systems.
Marianne Stack, the group’s project director, said the expo introduces girls to companies, professionals and career paths in the region, “helping them envision future opportunities close to home and strengthening our local talent pipeline.”
The program aims to address the underrepresentation of women in technology fields by pairing activities with industry role models.
