Holiday Seasonal Hiring Underway in Philadelphia as Retailers Staff Up for the Season
PHILADELPHIA — Holiday hiring season has arrived in Philadelphia, with retailers, warehouses and delivery companies posting seasonal openings across the region as they staff up for the year-end rush.
Current listings include seasonal warehouse roles at UPS in Philadelphia, seasonal sales associate positions at Bath & Body Works and Burlington stores, and openings at Whole Foods Market’s South Street location, according to job boards. Retail gift shops at Center City visitor centers are also hiring ahead of the tourist season.
Seasonal roles typically run from mid-October through early January, covering the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s stretch. Many employers hire both part-time and full-time seasonal staff, and some offer employee discounts and flexible scheduling.
Hiring experts say applying early matters. The first wave of postings often carries the widest choice of shifts and locations, while late applicants compete for what remains.
Job seekers can find openings on major job boards including Indeed, Snagajob and Jobsora, as well as on company career pages. Searching “seasonal” or “holiday” with a Philadelphia location filters for the right roles.
Applicants should have a simple resume ready, even for entry-level roles, and be prepared to discuss availability through the holidays. Many retailers ask specifically about availability on Black Friday and the days around Christmas.
For those who perform well, seasonal work sometimes leads to permanent offers after the holidays, when employers retain their strongest temporary staff.
