Reading Terminal Market to Host Scrapple and Apple Festival on Saturday
PHILADELPHIA — Reading Terminal Market hosts its annual Scrapple and Apple Festival this Saturday, Oct. 17, celebrating two staples of Pennsylvania Dutch cooking.
The family-friendly event fills the historic market with tastings, vendors and fall activities. Admission to the market itself is free.
Scrapple, the savory pork-and-cornmeal loaf rooted in Pennsylvania Dutch kitchens, takes center stage alongside apple cider, pies and other orchard treats.
The festival is an easy excuse to arrive hungry. Visitors can graze their way through Amish merchants and specialty stalls while sampling the season’s flavors.
Reading Terminal sits above the former Reading Railroad trainshed at 12th and Arch streets in Center City, a short trip on SEPTA from most neighborhoods.
For families hunting a low-cost Saturday outing, few Center City options beat a free-admission food festival in a landmark market hall.
