Subaru Park Gets EV Chargers and AI Lighting in a Smart Campus Upgrade

CHESTER — The Philadelphia Union’s home is getting smarter. Comcast Smart Solutions has turned Subaru Park and the adjacent WSFS Bank Sportsplex into a connected smart campus with new electric vehicle chargers and AI-powered lighting.

The deployment, announced in June, installed Level 2 EV chargers at the Sportsplex on an open-protocol platform that lets the club monitor performance centrally and keep chargers ready on game days.

The chargers run on NovaCHARGE hardware with an AI-powered repair bot that helps spot problems before they strand a driver, according to coverage by Sports Video Group.

Parking lots around the stadium got more than 300 Juganu smart light fixtures, including 100 equipped with AI video analytics. The fixtures double as cameras for real-time traffic, parking and safety monitoring, and they provide public WiFi.

“Our goal is to deliver the best matchday experience in Major League Soccer, and that starts the moment fans arrive,” said Tim McDermott, the Union’s president.

Underpinning it all is Comcast Business’s Metro Ethernet network, supplying the bandwidth for the campus’s data-heavy systems.

For Union fans driving to Chester, the practical payoff is simple. Charge the car, park under smarter lights, and stay connected from the lot to the pitch.

As stadiums compete on experience as much as on the scoreboard, the Union is betting that the road to a better matchday starts in the parking lot.
