Injury-Hit Eagles Host Cowboys at Home on Monday Night
The Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night at Lincoln Financial Field. It is a division rivalry game, but the Eagles are in a difficult spot.
After opening the season with two straight wins, the Eagles have lost four in a row. Their most recent game was a 25-14 home loss to the Carolina Panthers last Sunday.
The biggest hole is at quarterback. Jalen Hurts is on injured reserve with a superficial blood clot found in his calf. Hurts was treated after being cleated during the Oct. 4 game against the Rams, and an ultrasound revealed the clot. The team determined that activity and movement are important and that running itself is safe, but after follow-up testing it chose to place him on the list.
With Hurts out, backup quarterback Tanner McKee is expected to start. McKee has gone 1-1 in his two starts, throwing for 597 yards with five touchdowns and one interception.
Hurts is not the only injury. Running back Saquon Barkley is questionable with a hamstring injury, and Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley are on injured reserve. Offensive lineman Landon Dickerson is also on injured reserve. On defense, the availability of Jordan Davis and Nolan Smith will be monitored up to game day.
The Monday Night Football game kicks off at 8:15 p.m. Eastern on Monday and will be broadcast on ESPN and ABC.
It is a meeting between a team that needs to end a losing streak and a rival trying to win on that team’s home field. For the Eagles, it figures to be a week of holding on before the lineup can be put back together.
