Buses Replace Trains on Two Regional Rail Segments This Weekend
Anyone riding SEPTA Regional Rail this weekend should check the substitute bus service on two segments.
On Saturday and Sunday, DART buses will run instead of trains between Wilmington and the Claymont Transportation Center because of Amtrak track work. Trains will operate only from Claymont toward Philadelphia.
The same weekend, buses will carry passengers between Conshohocken and Norristown’s Elm Street station instead of trains. Substitute buses on that segment will run again on the weekend of Nov. 7 and 8.
New Regional Rail schedules took effect on Oct. 18. SEPTA said it made line connections more consistent and lengthened trains as more rail cars became available.
The Paoli/Thorndale Line, which carries riders from Chester County into Center City, is affected by the Amtrak work through Nov. 21. Inbound trains run five minutes earlier based on arrival at 30th Street Station, and they detour between Overbrook and 30th Street. The train that departed Malvern at 4:29 a.m. has been renumbered as train 9500 and leaves 20 minutes later.
The season when fallen leaves build up on rails and make wheels slip has also begun. SEPTA said on the 14th that it is preparing for slippery rail season and urged riders to plan with possible delays in mind.
There is parking news as well. The daily rate at SEPTA parking garages at the Frankford Transportation Center, Lansdale station and the Norristown Transportation Center has dropped from $4 to $2, in effect through the end of the year.
