Six in Ten AI Shoppers Have Bought Something an AI Recommended
Artificial intelligence is moving from answering shopping questions to closing sales. Nearly two-thirds of regular AI users, 61.8 percent, have bought a product after receiving an AI recommendation, according to a new survey.
The findings come from Snipp Interactive’s AI and the Modern Shopper Journey report, released Oct. 6 and based on a September survey of 1,000 U.S. adults who regularly use AI tools for search and shopping.
Deal hunting is the killer use. More than 71 percent have asked an AI assistant to find a promotion, discount, coupon or deal, and 63 percent say AI has saved them money on a purchase.
Product comparison is the most common shopping use measured, at 58 percent, and 84 percent have discovered a product or brand through AI they had not known about.
“Consumers are increasingly turning to AI to help them discover products, compare options and make purchase decisions,” said Atul Sabharwal, Snipp’s CEO, in the company’s announcement.
The timing matters. With the holiday shopping season approaching, AI assistants are becoming a new starting line. About 42 percent of respondents now begin product searches with AI, compared with 72 percent for traditional search engines.
For Philadelphia shoppers, the practical takeaway is to treat AI like a savvy friend with an agenda. It finds deals well, but its recommendations reflect what it has read, including marketing.
Eighty-one percent of respondents expect AI to change how they shop. For retailers, the question is no longer whether AI shapes purchases, but how visibly.
