PHL Amex Lounge Closes Friday for Two-Story Expansion
American Express is closing its Centurion Lounge at Philadelphia International Airport on Oct. 16 to begin a renovation that will more than double its size.
The lounge in Terminal A-West near gate A14 will grow from 6,000 square feet to more than 12,000 square feet across two stories. The work is expected to finish by the end of 2027. The expansion takes over space being vacated by the British Airways lounge.
The redesign will celebrate Philadelphia’s history, creative energy and craftsmanship, with works by local artists, according to American Express. Planned amenities include a Blue Roast coffee and wellness bar, building on the current lounge’s showers, full bar and hot food service.
The project is part of the largest Centurion Lounge expansion American Express has announced. Newark Liberty will get a new 30,000-square-foot lounge in 2027, Houston’s lounge will nearly triple to more than 23,000 square feet by 2028, and a second Heathrow lounge opens in 2028.
The expansion lands as card companies compete aggressively for premium travelers through PHL. Chase opened a 20,000-square-foot Sapphire Lounge between Terminals D and E in February 2025, and American Airlines added a Flagship Lounge and Admirals Club in Terminal A-West in May 2025. Even after doubling, the Centurion Lounge will remain smaller than the Chase space.
Access is included for holders of the American Express Platinum Card, the Business Platinum Card and the Delta SkyMiles Reserve card, according to Forbes. Travelers passing through PHL after Oct. 16 should check the Amex app’s lounge finder for alternatives in the Global Lounge Collection.
