Eagles Waste a 10-Point Lead and Fall 27-10 to Washington for a Sixth Straight Loss
The Philadelphia Eagles turned a 10-point lead into a 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday night, Nov. 1, at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md.
The Eagles led 10-0 in the first quarter on a Jake Elliott field goal and a Saquon Barkley touchdown. Barkley's score came on a short drive set up when Zack Baun recovered a fumble by Washington tight end Chig Okonkwo. Philadelphia did not score again.
Quarterback Tanner McKee completed 23 of 34 passes for 212 yards, with an interception and a lost fumble. He was sacked five times. McKee was making his third start in place of Jalen Hurts, who is out for the season.
Barkley carried 13 times for 30 yards. The Eagles' offense went scoreless over the final three quarters, finished with 268 total yards and converted 5 of 15 third downs.
Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels threw for 217 yards and a touchdown pass, and Drew Stevens kicked four field goals. A 1-yard touchdown run by Rachaad White and a two-point conversion run by Austin Ekeler completed the 27 points. Washington improved to 2-4-1 and moved ahead of the Eagles in the NFC East standings.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 2-6 and extended their losing streak to six games. It is their first six-game losing streak since 2012 and their worst start through eight games since 1999. NBC Sports Philadelphia reported the Eagles gained fewer than 300 yards of offense in five of the six games during the streak.
After the game, Barkley said, "This one sucks. They all suck," the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The Eagles host the New York Giants next Sunday before their bye week.
