HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam, Sept. 9, 2024 –In a significant move to strengthen bilateral trade ties, U.S. Department of Agriculture Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, Alexis M. Taylor, arrived in Ho Chi Minh City today to kick off a USDA-sponsored agribusiness trade mission. The mission aims to foster business opportunities with importers in Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries.

Under Secretary Taylor is leading a diverse delegation, which includes officials from 60 U.S. agribusiness and farm organizations, as well as representatives from nine state departments of agriculture. Their collective goal is to develop and expand trade relationships in the region.

Speaking about the mission, Under Secretary Taylor emphasized the importance of agriculture in the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Vietnam now stands as the United States’ 10th-largest export market for agricultural and food products. Throughout the week, participating companies will engage with businesses from Burma, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, laying the groundwork for future sales and strategic partnerships.

Vietnamese consumers, importers, and retailers recognize the reliability, quality, and sustainability of U.S. agricultural and related products. Notably, U.S. tree nuts, fresh fruit, poultry, beef, and pork are in high demand within Vietnam’s food processing, retail, and restaurant sectors.

This trade mission marks a significant step toward enhancing economic cooperation between the two nations and celebrates the first anniversary of their strategic partnership.
