Eagles Lose Another Running Back as Shipley Faces Weeks Out
PHILADELPHIA — The Eagles lost yet another running back Monday when ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Will Shipley suffered a partial tear of his plantar fascia in Sunday’s 19-17 loss to Jacksonville in London, an injury that could sideline him multiple weeks.
Shipley lasted just 13 snaps in his second career start. He scored his first regular-season NFL touchdown on a 2-yard run in the second quarter, then left with the foot injury in the first half.
He is the third Eagles running back hurt in two weeks. Saquon Barkley missed the London game with a hamstring injury and is considered week to week, while Tank Bigsby went on injured reserve after core-muscle surgery expected to keep him out about six weeks.
That leaves Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele as the only healthy backs. Pierce played a career-high 48 snaps against Jacksonville after both began the week on the practice squad, while Steele played only on special teams.
The injuries have broken Philadelphia’s ground game. The Eagles managed 22 rushing yards on 18 attempts in London, their worst rushing performance since Week 2 of the 2015 season, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Pierce led the team with 14 yards on 11 carries. Shipley finished with five carries for six yards and one catch for seven yards before exiting.
Philadelphia, now 2-3 with three straight losses, hosts Carolina on Sunday. Whether Barkley can return will shape everything about the game plan.
