Harrisburg Golf Course Plays Its Final Round to Make Way for a $10.5 Billion Data Center

HARRISBURG — Monday was the last day of play at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course, ending a 30-year run that began in 1995. The Bill Love-designed public course in Swatara Township is giving way to a massive data center campus.

The Dauphin County General Authority sold the 228-acre property for $45 million to Harrisburg I LLC. Texas-based developer Corscale plans a $10.5 billion data center campus on the site, according to Golfweek.

The authority had listed the course for sale in 2025 while wrestling with $13 million in debt. The sale price was roughly 10 times the recorded value of the land, according to GOLF.com.

Corscale recently offered Swatara Township a $120 million community benefits package, roughly six times the township’s annual budget, township solicitor Scott Wyland said at a public meeting. Some residents urged commissioners to delay a vote on the agreement until the public could review it.

“This is like a top-tier public course,” golfer Doc Greenlee told WGAL-TV. “It’s going to be a little bit of a shame to see this go.”

More than 300 golfers turned out for a final round Monday, GOLF.com reported. Tim Birney, the course’s director of instruction since 2012, played in the final group of the day.

Developers have said construction could begin in 2027, with the data centers potentially completed in 2028. The project still needs additional approvals and permits.

The deal shows what the AI boom looks like up close in Pennsylvania. When Dauphin County announced its intent to sell, five other data center builders submitted proposals, underscoring the demand for large parcels near energy and water.
