Union Carry Historic Unbeaten Run Into Chicago Showdown
CHESTER — The Philadelphia Union take a club-record 13-game unbeaten streak into Chicago on Wednesday night, and the hottest team in MLS shows no signs of cooling.
Philadelphia visits the Chicago Fire at 8:30 p.m. ET at Soldier Field with major playoff positioning on the line. The Union have won seven straight and sit sixth in the Eastern Conference with 42 points.
The turnaround has been staggering. Philadelphia sat at the bottom of the league table at the World Cup break and has gone 11-0-2 since returning.
Cavan Sullivan is the face of the surge. The 17-year-old homegrown recorded an assist in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake, giving him 20 goal contributions this season and tying Diego Fagundez for the most by a teenager in a single MLS season.
Sullivan was also named the league’s September Player of the Month and recently became the youngest goalscorer in U.S. men’s national team history.
Milan Iloski has powered the attack too, with his goals putting him in the Golden Boot conversation.
Chicago is fighting for its own playoff life, which should make for a charged night. The Union then return home to face Charlotte on Saturday.
